HARDNESS TESTING

Hardness is the resistance with which a body of a certain material opposes the penetration of a body from another (harder) material.

We perform the following hardness tests in our industrial laboratories:

HARDNESS TEST ACCORDING TO ROCKWELL HRC HARDNESS TEST ACCORDING TO BRINELL HBW HARDNESS TEST ACCORDING TO VICKERS HV
Test method:  dynamic
static
static
Indenter: Diamond Carbide body Diamond pyramid
Tip angle:  120°
  136°
Diameter:   Ø 1 mm – Ø 10 mm

Test load:  1.471,07 N (~ 150 kg!)

9.807 – 29.420 N (up to ~ 3,0 tons!)

HV0,01 (0,09807 N; ~ 10 gr.) – HV100 (980,7 N; ~ 100 kg)
Measurement:   via impression, optically indirect via impression, optically indirect
Measuring range:  20 bis 70 HRC
1 bis 650 HBW 50 bis 1500 HV
Application:

- hardened and/ or tempered steel

- hard grey cast iron

- non-ferrous metals

- annealed steel

- tempered steel

- hardened and/ or tempered steel

- thin components

- surface-hardened components (case-hardened, nitrated, etc.)

- films

- measurement of different metallographic constituents (microhardness)
