Burnishing creates even, deep black iron oxide layers on work pieces made from ferrous materials (cast iron, forged iron, alloyed and unalloyed steels), in order to give a suitable appearance and increase resistance to corrosion. The typical layer thicknesses in this technology are 0.5 µm to 2 µm.


Oiling the work pieces after the burnishing process has a very positive effect on both appearance and corrosion resistance.


Burnishing is used in the manufacture of tools and machinery, as well as many applications in the automotive industry.
